Steel Design has always been aware of its social obligation to reduce and reuse to help our environment. Recycled steel makes up 100% of our window and door frames without impacting the quality or finish.
At a glance, the major environmental benefits of Steel Design frames include a 100% recycled content and 100% recyclability; zero job site material waste; the longest window and door material structure life spam reducing the need for future building resources; energy conserving through lower frame to glass ratios = more hours of natural lighting per day; high performance double glazing options. Only windows and doors made from steel can have all these properties, thus making steel and Steel Design the ideal green choice it is today.

Steel recycling programs reduce the solid waste stream, resulting in saved land fill space, whilst conserving our natural resources. Forging steel from recycled material uses 75% less energy than producing from raw materials. Steel is 100% recyclable and can be recycled an infinite amount of times, saving energy and raw materials each time it is reprocessed. 64% of all steel is recycled – more than any other material including glass, paper, plastic and aluminium combined! Steel is truly the most recycled material there is.
Steel frames are valued in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design – official software for monitoring sustainable construction) by recognising the environmental benefits of using steel frames and awards points under Credit 4.1 and 4.2 (as required by LEED Version 2.1) for the recyclability nature of the material.
